Friendly’s Express closes its doors
The Mansfield Buzz
The Friendly’s Express Store
on School St. has closed. The
restaurant chain was hard hit by
the economic downturn and in
October they filed for Chapter
11 and closed 63 stores, including
the store in Foxboro.
Right now they are trying to
get out of bankruptcy protection.
The store across from
Mansfield Crossing opened in
2009 as the first Friendly’s
Express, which offered a limited
menu but also less wait time.
At that time Friendly’s
expressed optimism that this...

School Committee passes interim policy regarding sport’s concussions
The Easton Buzz ~ By Ryan Brown
While high school and
college-level sports
are on the forefront of
parents’ minds many think of
them as a way for their kids to
build character and as the basic
building blocks for their kids to
succeed.
However, few think about the
life-changing injuries that can
occur at the earliest stages of
their childrens’ sports teams.
This is why the Easton School
Committee has decided to have a
temporary ruling regarding concussions
in school sports.
No longer something you see in
professional sports, schools from
around the country have been
doing research and setting policies
governing what athletes,
coaches, parents and teammates
should do when a player receives
a concussion.
Earlier this month the Easton
School Committee, under a deadline
set by the state, unanimously
voted on an interim concussion
policy that will require student
athletes and members in the
marching band to go through
training prior to sports or marching
band competitions.
The interim policy states, “The
athletic director shall be responsible
for the implementation of
this policy...
Mixed reaction to creation of new veterans’ district
The Easton Buzz
Proponents of the
proposed four-town veterans’
regional district were happy to
hear that the proposal, after having
been passed by all four towns,
was conditionally approved by
the state earlier this month.
The application proposal,
which went to state officials late
last year, is now approved on a
temporary basis for all of the
towns involved but only for a
conditional period.
The new veterans’ region,
which will be called The Crossroads
Regional Veterans’ Services
District, will handle the veterans’
services for the towns of Easton,
Norton, Mansfield and Foxboro...

Sharon schools adopt Social Media Policy
The Sharon Buzz ~ By Ryan Brown
In an effort to handle
the coming challenges
that face
teachers and students in
the ever-changing digital
age the Sharon School
Committee has drafted
and adopted a Social
Media Policy that blankets
the use of social media
outlets, such as Facebook,
throughout the entire
Sharon School District.
The need for a clear set of
rules or guidelines governing
social media use is an obvious
one. So there is visibility when a
teacher or coach interacts
online with a student(s) or that
the school network is not used
inappropriately during school
hours when work should be getting
done.
“A social media policy can be
adopted one of two ways,” said
Superintendent Timothy
Farmer, “rules or guidelines can
be passed down from the Massachusetts
Association of School
Committees or something can
happen within the school district
that will make us create a
set of guidelines.”
In the case of the Sharon
school district there was no...
